Threat Overview

AX.C.13.01 - Threat Overview

Threat Types

Threats are often categorized in broad groupings based on common features and abilities. For example, fantasy genre threats are often grouped using some of these terms: Aberration, Beast, Construct, Dragon, Elemental, Humanoid, Magical Beast, Undead, etc.

Each Genre Catalog might provide it's own unique groups or use any of the more universal categories.

Threat Power Packages

Like Player Power Packages, Threat Power Packages offer a total number of dice used to generate the Attributes of individual Threats.

  • Minion (3-4D total): Weak threats, typically fought in groups
  • Standard (5-7D total): Average threats matching typical adventurers
  • Elite (8-10D total): Powerful threats requiring tactical planning
  • Champion (11-13D total): Major threats that can challenge entire parties
  • Legendary (14D+ total): Epic threats requiring multiple sessions or entire campaigns

Minions are weaker threats that are normally encountered and act in groups. Numbers are their only real power.

Legendary Threats are more of a natural hazard than an encounter. They may not even recognize the characters are present. Any attempt to draw their attention may not end well for the characters.
