Defense & Armor

AX.GAT.09.02

Defense = 1 + (Speed Value + Armor Value) ÷ 3, round down (minimum 1).

Armor contributes an Armor Value to the Defense formula. Higher Armor Values improve Defense but typically impose movement and skill penalties that represent reduced mobility and increased mass. The Terminal's operational environment rewards balanced choices, heavy armor that is appropriate for a fortified checkpoint is a liability in a zero-g EVA operation.

Armor Value ranges from 0 (no armor) to 4 (heavy combat plate).

Armor Entries

Clothing and Unarmored

Station Wear Standard Terminal clothing, durable, practical, layer-able. No armor value; no restrictions. What most residents wear daily.

  • Armor Value: 0
  • Traits: None
  • Tier: Standard, ℃r 30–120 (varies by quality and style)

Light Armor

Reinforced Jacket A heavy jacket or long coat with concealed padding and trauma plates in high-probability strike zones. Concealable as outerwear; provides meaningful protection without signaling intent.

  • Armor Value: 1
  • Traits: Concealable (obvious as a jacket; not obvious as armor; Notice Threshold 3 to identify as armored)
  • Tier: Standard, ℃r 150–280

Tactical Vest (Soft) A dedicated soft-armor vest worn over or under clothing. The Vigilant patrol standard and common in security-adjacent operations. Obvious as armor; not culturally unusual in most parts of the Terminal.

  • Armor Value: 1
  • Traits: None
  • Tier: Standard, ℃r 180–300

Survey Field Suit A full-coverage lightweight suit designed for field operations, abrasion-resistant, thermal-regulated, designed to layer under heavier protection. The Survey Corps baseline field kit for surface operations. Includes integrated helmet-ready collar and equipment attachment points.

  • Armor Value: 1
  • Traits: Equipment-Ready (attachment points for tool harness; does not count against carry capacity for standard field tools); Thermal Regulated (halves environmental temperature effects on Body Save requirements, non-vacuum)
  • Tier: Standard, ℃r 350–500

Medium Armor

Tactical Armor (Hard Plate) Hard plate composite armor covering torso, shoulders, and upper arms over a soft-armor base layer. The Vigilant tactical unit standard and the practical ceiling for Restricted-available armor.

  • Armor Value: 2
  • Traits: None
  • Tier: Restricted, ℃r 800–1,400

Void Suit (Standard) A vacuum-rated pressure suit providing full environmental isolation from hard vacuum. Provides protection against vacuum exposure (see AX.GAT.08.02); does not prevent damage but halts the Vacuum Exposure stage progression while worn and intact. Rated for short-duration EVA operations.

  • Armor Value: 1 (pressure suit construction provides minimal ballistic protection)
  • Traits: Void-Rated (prevents Vacuum Exposure stage progression while intact); Sealed (seals against vacuum, low-pressure, and atmospheric contamination); Glove-Compatible (all equipment designed for void-rated use functions normally); Life Support (3-hour oxygen supply, expandable with additional tanks, see AX.GAT.09.03); Limited Mobility (−1D to Speed-based physical rolls while wearing)
  • Special: A breached suit initiates the Vacuum Exposure condition at Stage 1, Exposed (AX.GAT.08.02). Breaches can be sealed with a Repair action (Speed + Engineering, Threshold 2) using patch materials.
  • Tier: Restricted, ℃r 800–1,200

Void Suit (Radiation-Shielded) A vacuum-rated suit with integrated radiation shielding for operations in high-radiation zones, Zone 4 debris fields, direct proximity to stellar formations, or breached reactor environments. Prevents Low Exposure radiation damage entirely; halves High Exposure damage (AX.GAT.08.02).

  • Armor Value: 1
  • Traits: Void-Rated; Sealed; Glove-Compatible; Life Support (3-hour supply); Limited Mobility (−1D Speed-based); Radiation Shielded (full Low Exposure immunity; High Exposure damage halved)
  • Tier: Restricted, ℃r 1,800–2,500

Reinforced EVA Suit A heavy-duty vacuum suit built for extended EVA operations, structural reinforcement, extended life support, magnetic boot integration, and tether hardpoints. The Survey Corps extended-operation standard. Bulky and conspicuous inside the station.

  • Armor Value: 2
  • Traits: Void-Rated; Sealed; Life Support (8-hour supply, modular expansion); Magnetic Boots Integrated (removes Zero-G Disoriented movement component, directed movement does not require a roll); Tether Hardpoints (tether attachment is a free action); Bulky (obvious armor; −1D to Speed-based rolls inside station environments where maneuverability matters)
  • Tier: Restricted, ℃r 2,800–3,800

Heavy Armor

Combat Plate Full heavy-plate composite armor over a hard-armor base layer. Faction Controlled issue; not available through standard Restricted channels. The Vigilant specialist unit configuration for high-threat operations.

  • Armor Value: 3
  • Traits: Bulky; Heavy (−1D to all Speed-based rolls; character cannot use the Concealable trait of any carried weapon, all weapons are obvious)
  • Tier: Controlled, faction issue only

Tactical Combat Frame A powered exoskeletal armor frame that augments the wearer's physical capability while providing maximum ballistic and environmental protection. Not a full exosuit, movement is natural, enhanced by the frame rather than replaced by it.

  • Armor Value: 4
  • Traits: Powered (requires charge, 8 hours continuous use per power cell; see AX.GAT.09.03); Strength Augmented (Body-based carry and lift limits doubled while powered); Heavy (−1D to Speed-based rolls when moving at full pace); Sealed (can be configured for vacuum with void-rated kit add-on, not void-rated by default)
  • Tier: Controlled, faction issue only

Vacuum Suits: Summary Table

Suit Armor Value Vacuum Protection Radiation Life Support Tier Price
Standard Void Suit 1 Full (halts progression) None 3 hours Restricted ℃r 800–1,200
Radiation-Shielded Void Suit 1 Full Low: immune; High: halved 3 hours Restricted ℃r 1,800–2,500
Reinforced EVA Suit 2 Full None 8 hours (modular) Restricted ℃r 2,800–3,800

Movement Equipment

Magnetic Boots Adhesion-surface boots with an electromagnetic grip system for zero-g operations. Allows movement along metal surfaces without requiring thrust or tether. Does not provide full zero-g mobility, the character moves but cannot maneuver freely off surfaces.

  • Effect: Removes the Zero-G Disoriented movement component (directed movement along surfaces does not require a Speed + Acrobatics roll); Body-based rolls that require leverage or stable footing are still made at Disadvantage (see AX.GAT.08.02)
  • Traits: Compatible with void suits (most suit boots can accept magnetic boot upgrades)
  • Tier: Standard, ℃r 200–350

Thruster Pack (Personal) A compact propulsion pack for open-void maneuvering, directional thrusters that allow a character to move freely in zero-g without surface contact. Full three-dimensional movement capability.

  • Effect: Removes Zero-G Disoriented entirely (both movement and Body roll components); allows directed movement in zero-g without a roll under normal conditions
  • Traits: Fuel (4 hours continuous thrust per fuel cell; see AX.GAT.09.03); requires void suit for open-vacuum use; must be worn exterior to other gear
  • Tier: Restricted, ℃r 1,400–2,000

Tether Kit A standard safety tether with magnetic anchor and retraction spool. The minimum safety equipment for hull-exterior operations. Attaches to void suit tether hardpoints or belt anchors.

  • Effect: A character with an active tether cannot drift uncontrolled in zero-g, uncontrolled movement stops at tether limit rather than continuing indefinitely; counts as magnetically anchored for Magnetic Bracing weapon trait
  • Traits: Anchor range 15m standard; retractable; rated for full combat loads
  • Tier: Standard, ℃r 60–120
