Kits and General Gear of Andrus
AX.GAN.09.03 - Kits & General Gear
Kits
Kits are consumable equipment packages that grant bonus dice to specific rolls. Each Kit has a Starting Modifier representing how many uses of meaningful bonus it contains. Each use depletes the modifier by 1D. When a Kit reaches 0D, it is spent and must be replenished or replaced.
Using a Kit: Minor Action, unless the Kit entry states otherwise.
Kit Starting Modifiers: - +1D, Single meaningful use. Narrow, situational advantage. - +2D, Two uses. Standard professional-grade consumable. - +3D, Three uses. Expert-level preparation, specialist tools.
Replenishing Kits: A spent Kit can be refilled during a Long Rest if the appropriate materials are available (GM adjudicates availability by environment). Some Kits, particularly those requiring specific cultural production (Kasia compounds, Daza archive materials, Consortium Arcanism tools), cannot be replenished without returning to the source culture.
Starting Equipment note: Profession Starting Equipment assigns each profession one or more Kits at the listed Starting Modifier. These are provided at character creation; cost is not paid from starting funds.
Combat and Physical Support Kits
Fortitude Kit
Applies to: Fortitude | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor
Resistance preparations, protective compounds, and conditioning materials: hardening salves applied before extended physical strain, anti-bruising preparations, joint-support wrappings, breathing treatments for environments with hazardous particulates. Common among fighters who expect to take punishment.
Used by: Stoneholder, Ember Sworn, Blade Shadow, Reckoner
Endurance Kit
Applies to: Endurance | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor
Physical conditioning aids and recovery compounds: stamina-supporting preparations, energy concentrates, anti-fatigue treatments. Distinct from the Fortitude Kit, Endurance supports sustained effort over time where Fortitude supports resistance to impact and environment. Long-haul fighters and travelers carry Endurance Kits; siege-fighters and physical resistors carry Fortitude Kits.
Used by: Pride Champion, Reckoner
Acrobatics Kit
Applies to: Acrobatics | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor
Rope, climbing gear, grip resin, and movement-enhancing aids: chalk powder for grip, friction-increasing compounds for specific surfaces, lightweight anchor tools, coiled cordage. Skirmishers use it for urban maneuvering; Tide Guards use it for shipboard boarding operations; Windcasters use it for route-finding.
Used by: Tide Guard, Skirmisher, Windcaster
Healing Kit
Applies to: Medicine | Starting Modifier: +3D (professional); +2D (field) | Action: Minor
Medical preparations and treatment materials. Two variants exist in practice:
Professional Healing Kit (+3D): Expert-grade materials used by dedicated healers. Hearthspeaker versions incorporate fire-tradition cauterization and warmth-restoration techniques; Mirelen Deep Voice versions use water-compound preparations and flowing-current treatments. The cultural origin of the materials affects which tradition injuries they treat best, not a mechanical distinction, but a GM guidance note.
Field Healing Kit (+2D): Self-recovery and emergency stabilization materials. Channels carry these between power surges; they are not specialist healer equipment. Two uses of meaningful benefit rather than three.
Used by: Hearthspeaker (+3D), Deep Voice (+3D), Channel (+2D)
Toxin Kit
Applies to: Medicine | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor
Kasia-harvested jungle compounds, application tools, and preparation materials. The Kit applies to the Medicine check required to safely prepare and apply a toxin to a weapon without contaminating the application surface or accidentally dosing the applicator. Properly prepared toxins (kit bonus applied) increase the target's Body Save Threshold by 1 for the first application, the precision of the preparation enhances the compound's effectiveness.
Replenishment note: Kasia compounds cannot be sourced outside Kasia territory and jungle environments that support the relevant species. Replenishment in Reach or coastal environments is not possible.
Used by: Still Hand
Social and Informational Kits
Diplomacy Kit
Applies to: Persuade | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor
Documents, sealing wax, formal ledger, credential portfolio, template agreements. The Diplomacy Kit provides the physical apparatus of formal negotiation: credentials that establish institutional standing, documentation that converts verbal agreement to enforceable record, and the visual authority of properly produced instruments. Used before or during formal negotiations, not in casual social interactions.
Used by: Compact Warden
Contacts Kit
Applies to: Persuade | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor
Coded notation tools, letter-writing materials, seal-stamps for multiple correspondents, and a maintained reference document of factional relationships and contact names. The Contacts Kit enables reaching out through information networks, sending and receiving coded communications, activating dormant contacts, refreshing relationships through demonstrated knowledge of a contact's situation. Distinct from the Diplomacy Kit: Diplomacy operates through formal institutional channels; Contacts operates through personal networks.
Used by: Den Runner
Tactics Kit
Applies to: Tactics | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor
Maps, signal equipment, unit identification guides, command documentation, operational templates. The Tactics Kit supports active planning and command, creating a tactical picture from available intelligence, coordinating movements, establishing and transmitting orders. Used by commanders before and during engagements.
Used by: Commander
Analysis Kit
Applies to: Lore | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor
Correspondence records, coded notation systems, pattern-tracking materials, comparative reference sheets. The Analysis Kit supports systematic review of accumulated information, identifying patterns in records, connecting threads across multiple sources, producing actionable intelligence from data already gathered. Architects carry Analysis Kits because their work is retrospective: understanding what has already happened to predict what will.
Used by: Architect
Observation and Awareness Kits
Observation Kit
Applies to: Notice | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor
Spyglass, field measurement tools, atmospheric indicators, range markers. The Observation Kit extends effective notice range and precision, identifying specific individuals at Far distance, detecting movement in low-visibility conditions, reading terrain from elevation. Highwatchers use it for aerial patrol work.
Used by: Highwatcher
Attunement Kit
Applies to: Attunement | Starting Modifier: +3D | Action: Minor
Atmospheric reading instruments, wind-notation tools, sensitivity-enhancing preparations for perception of tradition use or environmental energy. Vane use it for atmospheric monitoring; the precision instruments detect and record what unaided Attunement only approximately registers. Three uses at expert quality; this is specialized equipment.
Used by: Vane
Survival Kit
Applies to: Notice | Starting Modifier: +2D | Action: Minor (preparation) / Free Action (active use)
Reach-specific environmental monitoring equipment: fissure-detection rods (active Scar activity at Touch range), atmospheric monitors (gas content indicators), ash filters (personal), thermal variance readers. The Survival Kit is not a general wilderness kit; it is calibrated specifically for Blasted Reach conditions. Outside the Reach, most components have no relevant application.
Active use: Once deployed, fissure-detection tools provide continuous ambient reading as a Free Action check, rather than requiring a Minor Action per observation.
Used by: Reach Reader
Stealth and Infiltration Kits
Disguise Kit
Applies to: Deceive (Disguise focus) | Starting Modifier: +3D | Action: Primary Action
Costume materials, voice-modification preparations, appearance-altering compounds, reference materials for cultural dress across multiple lineages. Shinekeeper's Shadows maintain Disguise Kits calibrated specifically to their current operational requirements, the Kit contents shift based on what identities they are maintaining. Three uses at expert quality; each use reflects a complete identity preparation rather than a simple costume change.
Used by: Shinekeeper's Shadow
Infiltration Kit
Applies to: Stealth | Starting Modifier: +3D | Action: Minor
Lockpicks, door-bypass tools, climbing gear (compact), silence equipment (padding, friction-reduction compounds, hinge treatments), and a case of tools for defeating mechanical security measures. The Kit's bonus applies when using these tools during active infiltration, bypassing a locked door, climbing a guarded wall, moving through a secured space. Each use represents a specific infiltration challenge overcome.
Used by: Infiltrator
Documentation and Scholarship Kits
Documentation Kit
Applies to: Persuade | Starting Modifier: +3D | Action: Primary Action
Formal reference archives, professional writing implements, sealing materials (multiple House seals), formal recording equipment, legal template documents. The Documentation Kit produces legally credible paperwork, contracts, formal agreements, legal filings, institutional records. House Advocates use it in their capacity as institutional representatives of Ekhari mercantile law. Three uses represents three complete formal documents produced, not three applications of ink.
Used by: House Advocate
Archive Kit
Applies to: Lore | Starting Modifier: +3D | Action: Minor
Memory Coil notation tools, secure document materials (tamper-evident sealing, cipher-protected containers), Daza coil-family cipher keys, cross-reference scrolls. The Archive Kit supports accessing, reading, and producing Daza memory records, the specific notation systems and cipher keys that Memory Keepers use to maintain the integrity of oral-tradition documentation. Without the Kit's reference materials, accessing a Daza archive is possible but significantly slower.
Used by: Memory Keeper
Lore Kit
Applies to: Lore | Starting Modifier: +3D | Action: Minor
Historical reference materials, cultural records, celestial observation archive extracts, comparative cultural documentation. The Lore Kit supports broad scholarly inquiry, historical events, cultural practices, celestial phenomena, lineage relationships. Warm Ones use it to cross-reference their territorial observation with wider historical context; Chronicler-Legates use it to connect individual celestial events to the longer record.
Used by: Warm One, Chronicler-Legate
Research Kit
Applies to: Lore | Starting Modifier: +3D | Action: Minor
Notation instruments, observation tools, analytical frameworks, systematic inquiry templates. The Research Kit supports sustained investigation of a specific topic across multiple sessions of inquiry, tracking hypotheses, recording evidence, identifying gaps. Scholars use it to apply a rigorous systematic approach to tradition study that produces more reliable conclusions than unstructured inquiry. Each use represents one complete research session, not one fact discovered.
Used by: Scholar
Tradition Support Kits
Formation Kit
Applies to: Attunement (Consortium Arcanism, Formation setup and direction) | Starting Modifier: +3D | Action: Minor
Focus crystals (calibrated for Consortium channeling frequencies), Formation-position markers (physical or chalked indicators establishing contributor positions), channeling anchors (focal points that help contributors maintain their place in the Formation). The Formation Kit applies when the Director is establishing a Formation Working, the physical tools reduce the organizational overhead of coordinating multiple casters. Each use covers one complete Formation Working setup.
Note: The Kit bonus applies to the Director's Attunement check when organizing the Formation. It does not apply to individual contributors' rolls within the Working.
Used by: Consortium Arcanist
General Gear
General gear items are non-Kit equipment; they do not have Starting Modifiers and do not deplete with use. They provide narrative capability and may enable specific Kit or ability uses, but do not directly add dice to rolls.
Costs are in Iron Marks (IM). See AX.GAN.10.04 for the full currency and pricing reference.
