Harmonic Support Perks

Perks that interact with the Friction Rule, Resonance Stress, and Backlash mechanics defined in AX.GIL.08.01. Assignable to any profession with Harmonic Tradition Power Access.

The character has developed professional conditioning that makes mid-scene Resonance Stress grounding faster without making it easier.

When Stressed, the character may attempt to ground their harmonics as a Minor Action rather than a Primary Action. The roll is unchanged: Governing Attribute + Resolve vs Threshold 3. On failure, they remain Stressed and may not attempt again until after their next rest, identical to the standard rule. Only the action cost changes.

Limit: The Minor Action option is always available when Stressed. No per-use cap.

Design note: Harmonic Attunement does not reduce the difficulty of grounding; it reduces the cost of attempting it. A failed grounding attempt still burns a Minor Action and forecloses further attempts. Professions with high Resolve investment benefit most.

The character can detect the harmonic signature left by recent Tradition use, the Axiomatic equivalent of smelling where someone has been.

As a Free Action, roll Wit + Attunement vs Threshold 2. On success, determine whether any Harmonic Tradition was used within Near range in the last 24 hours. On 3+ successes, identify which Tradition was used (Temporal, Tectonic, Technomancy, or Marginal). On 5+ successes, approximate the intensity (whether the roll was Easy, Standard, or Difficult+). This read does not reveal the content or target of the effect, only that power was exercised, when, and by which Tradition.

Dead Zones and Halfling Burrow-State environments suppress this read, Threshold increases to 4 within those areas, reflecting the deliberate harmonic dampening.

The character has internalized the warning signs of Axiomatic overload and learned to bleed off excess harmonic pressure before it catastrophically discharges.

When Backlash triggers while the character is Stressed, they may spend their Reaction to reduce the Backlash severity by one step before the effect resolves: Severe becomes Moderate, Moderate becomes Minor, Minor is negated entirely. The Backlash still occurs at the reduced severity; this perk does not prevent Backlash, only limits its cost. Must be declared before the GM describes the Backlash effect.

This perk has no effect on Kinetic Modifier Double Implosion Backlash (which triggers at Moderate regardless of Friction state, per AX.GIL.08.01 Human Kinetic rules), Kinetic Backlash is a different mechanism.
